Over the next year, we became regulars at our local animal shelter, eagerly awaiting news from rescue sites about potential four-legged family members. Picture this: countless wagging tails, soulful eyes, and bundles of fur—all vying for our attention. There were so many deserving doggos, each with a heart ready to bring warmth and joy to our home. But, life has a way of keeping us on our toes, and despite our best efforts, our busy schedules and Mom's daily needs sometimes meant missing out on meeting these wonderful pups before they found their forever homes.
Maybe call me a worrywart, but I wanted to make sure we found a dog that would be the perfect match for Mom. One that wouldn't be too rambunctious, avoiding any potential confusion or, heaven forbid, a tumble. You see, we've had our fair share of family members taking a spill and, trust me, hips don't bounce back like they used to. It's a lesson in resilience that hits close to home.
Then came August 2016—a month that would mark a turning point in our furry tale. An incredible Dog Rescue Organization reached out, letting us know about an upcoming litter of puppies that were in need of loving homes. Cue the excitement, the “puppy countdown" began!
